April 25 , 2007 - Taylor Grabs the Gold at Texas Raceway___________________________________

Finally, a good Friday night for racing at Texas Raceway after weeks of fighting wind, rain, and even snow. The Texas Outlaw Pro Modified Association put on another great show for a near capacity crowd. As an added bonus the Texas True Ten Five's added two heads up classes for the fans enjoyment.

After two rounds of TOPMA qualifying, a surprising Wes Johnston held the number one spot with career best 3.948 @183.00, with Wichita Falls’ Mat Thomas holding down the bump in his new Pontiac. A total of 16 cars attempted to qualify for the 8 car show.

First round kicked off with Steve Wiley in the Texas Grim Reaper winning over Ken Thomas with the now blown Bad Bird, then in a battle of nitrous cars, Thomas Meyers laid a 4.189 on Randall Reid’s 4.336. Frankie "Mad Man" Taylor, after a disappointing number 7 qualifying position, laid a 4.009 on Gaylen Smith's Texas Bounty Hunter '41 Willys to advance to the second round. Then the surprise of the round found Mat Thomas singling after Wes Johnston broke on his burnout.

With the $3000.00 bounty still up for grabs for the first three second run in eliminations, the "Mad Man" came to line loaded for bear against Tom "Slick" Meyers in his '63 Vette. While both cars experienced tire shake, Frankie still managed a 4.052 to put down Meyer’s 4.248. Steve Wiley then strapped a 4.151 on Mat Thomas to set the stage for the finals.

The finals turned out to be anti-climatic as Wiley’s Camaro had a bad oil leak and was forced to shut off after his burnout. Frankie, also with problems, did a short burn out and singled for the win. Turns out the Taylor Racing Corvette had a spun rear main and was going to shut off until Frankie saw Wiley being shut off.

The Texas True 10.5 cars put on a great show for the TXR crowd. The winners in Extreme 10.5 were John Dinkel in his Ford Fairmont over Pat McElroy in his Chevy. In the True Street 10.5, Roy Spencer, in his '66 Chevy II. prevailed over Paul Johnson in his '90 Mustang.
