Ten TOPMA racers came to Texas Raceway Friday night for the monthly show.
Wes Johnston from Mabank, TX in his ’53 Corvette led the field with a 4.007 and had top speed at 186.05. Thomas “Slick” Myers from Granbury, TX in his ’63 Corvette qualified #2 with a 4.118 at 176.10, Steve Wiley in his “Texas Grim Reaper” was #3 with a 4.164, and rounding out the top half of the field was Gene Hector in the “Mighty Mouse small block” Corvette with a 4.247. Holding down the bump spot was Clyde Scott in his new ’37 Chevy at a 4.56.
Round 1 opened with Frankie “The Mad Man” Taylor taking the win over Gene Hector with a 4.072 to a losing 4.182. Thomas Myers won over Ricky Cate in a peddle fest. Steve Wiley overcame a Heath Harvey hole shot with a winning 4.195. The round closed with Wild, Wild Wes overcoming a shutting off Clyde Scott.
Round 2 opened with Thomas Myers winning with a 4.10 over a fouling Steve Wiley. Wes Johnston then put a 3.993 on the current 3 in a row winner, Frankie Taylor’s losing 4.824.
The final pitted #1 against #2, in a blower vs. nitrous match-up with West Johnston winning on a hole shot over Thomas Myers with a 4.152 to Myers losing 4.122.
The run was costly for Wes as he kicked the rods out just before the finish line. Last month he took home the 3 second bounty and this time he took home the trophy.
