Mother nature was kind to the Texas Outlaws in Abilene. We had a short rain delay and then the race was on. Here's what went down:
#1 Wes Johnston - 4.327 at 166 mph
#2 Doug Riesterer - 4.364 at 138 mph
#3 Thomas Myers - 4.403 at 165 mph
#4 Gaylen Smith - 4.440 at 146 mph
#5 Jeremy Brown - 4.474 at 142 mph
#6 Scott Hintz - 4.542 at 156 mph
#7 Justin White - 5.103 at 134 mph
#8 Frankie Taylor - 5.408 at 128 mph
#9 Keith Farris - 5.686 at 81 mph
Round 1:
Thomas Myers (W) 4.230 at 169 mph (.069 RT)
Scott Hintz (RU) 4.576 at 149 mph (.119 RT)
Thomas got her dialed in after qualifying and went straight down the center of the track.
Jeremy Brown (W) 4.139 at 172 mph (.040 RT)
Gaylen Smith (RU) 4.768 at 111 mph (.071 RT)
This was a repeat of the final round at Kennedale but Jeremy liked this outcome a lot better. After moving around during qualifying, Charlie found the right tune up for Jeremy to go from point A to B under power. Gaylen lost a spark plug wire during the burnout.
Justin White (W) 5.070 at 134 mph (.085 RT)
Doug Riesterer (RU) 6.972 at 65 mph (.042 RT)
Doug did his job on the tree but the new car wasn't having any part of this run. He had to get out of it and even though Justin was on an off paced pass too, it was enough to take the win .
Wes Johnston (W) 4.382 at 162 mph (.041 RT)
Frankie Taylor (RU) 4.500 at 144 mph (.036 RT)
Frankie meant business after not qualifying last night at TXR and he was not going to get left on but that wasn't enough. Wes took advantage of Frankie trying to find the right tune up for his new combination and snatches the win.
Semi Finals:
Thomas Myers (W) 4.210 at 173 mph (.065 RT)
Justin White (RU) 5.194 at 122 mph (.091 RT)
Another great run for slick and Justin had to get out of it.
Wes Johnston (W) 4.233 at 166 mph (.040 RT)
Jeremy Brown (RU) 4.274 at 152 mph (.062 RT)
Jeremy was playing a little game called catch up and the '63 Corvette got way out of shape on the finish line and from where I was standing it looked like he got into the wall but Jeremy has become good friends with his chutes and once again, they saved the Twizted Lemon from really being twizted. Wes was on a great run and had a great reaction time as well.
Finals:
Thomas Myers (W) 5.460 at 86 mph (.062 RT)
Wes Johnston (RU) 4.248 at 168 mph (-.0996 RT)
Wes knew it was going to be a close race and was looking for every advantage he could find but he chopped the tree down a little too hard leaving the red amber glowing and Thomas coasts in for the win. Congratulations to Slick and Little Slick on their 2nd TOPMA victory this season. Congrats to Wes and the Wild Wild Wes Crew for a great performance all night and the runner-up finish. Your time is coming!
