The weather was great and a HUGE crowd was on hand at Red Line Raceway
for an awesome night of racing. After two rounds of qualifying here's
how it ended up:
#1 Doug Riesterer - 4.044 at 180 mph
#2 Steve Wiley - 4.157 at 172 mph
#3 Ken Thomas - 4.206 at 172 mph
#4 Thomas Myers - 4.382 at 166 mph
#5 Frankie Taylor - 4.400 at 166 mph
#6 Gaylen Smith - 4.488 at 132 mph
#7 Chuck Nuytten - 4.530 at 163 mph
#8 Eddie Roach - 4.772 at 141 mph
#9 James "Bud" Morgan - 4.792 at 155 mph
#10 Chuck Poindexter - 4.805 at 149 mph
First Round:
Thomas Myers (W) 4.139 at 175 mph (.407 RT)
Frankie Taylor (RU) 19.044 at 17 mph (.557 RT)
The blower belt flew off of Frankie's car at the hit of the throttle so all he could do is watch Thomas cruise straight down the left lane taking the win.
Steve Wiley (W) 4.195 at 172 mph (.528 RT)
Chuck Nuytten (RU) 4.397 at 168 mph (.462 RT)
Even though Steve got the win light, it was a win for Chuck Nuytten and his team as well. They have been fighting some major gremlins since he re-built the car after his crash a couple of years ago and this was a pretty clean pass. Great job guys!
Ken Thomas (W) 4.268 at 167 mph (.421 RT)
Gaylen Smith (RU) 5.535 at 86 mph (.456 RT)
Ken Thomas has been making some great runs since converting to blown horsepower and this one was no exception. Gaylen shook and went left again and coasted through.
Doug Riesterer (W) 4.136 at 175 mph (.413 RT)
Eddie Roach (RU) 4.822 at 143 mph (.412 RT)
Both cars slowed a little from their qualifying times but still great runs. Eddie didn't give anything up on the tree and neither did Doug.
Semi Finals:
Thomas Myers (W) 8.016 at 54 mph (.481 RT)
Doug Riesterer (RU) 4.070 at 179 mph (.358 RT)
Doug wasted a great run as he left the red bulb glowing which was a blessing for Thomas because he spit and sputtered all the way down the track.
Ken Thomas (W) 4.242 at 169 mph (.493 RT)
Steve Wiley (RU) 5.065 at 109 mph (.472 RT)
Slight starting line advantage to Steve Wiley in the Texas Grim Reaper but Ken drove around him for the win.
Finals:
Thomas Myers (W) 4.168 at 175 mph (.481 RT)
Ken Thomas (RU) 4.219 at 168 mph (.448 RT)
Ken had the hole shot advantage but he needed a little more to pull off the win. This was a great side by side close race! Congratulations to Thomas and Rebecca as they took the win in the "House of Hot Rods" lane and also to Ken and Susan Thomas for their runner-up finish.
