WOW! What a crowd at Red Line Raceway. We arrived late and when we pulled in the gate, there were spectator cars everywhere. They all came out to see the battle of the 2007 points championship unfold. Frankie has the lead but it's not a huge lead. Thomas Myers is right on his heels. After two rounds of qualifying, here's what went down:
#1 Doug Riesterer - 4.034 at 179 mph
#2 Bobby Booth - 4.106 at 174 mph
#3 Frankie Taylor - 4.139 at 154 mph **2nd pass on NEW car**
#4 Thomas Myers - 4.153 at 177 mph
#5 Steve Wiley - 4.277 at 171 mph
#6 Howard Brown - 4.594 at 160 mph
#7 Chuck Poindexter - 4.797 at 149 mph
#8 Gaylen Smith - 5.027 at 103 mph
Round 1:
Bobby Booth (W) 5.428 at 97 mph (.474 RT)
Chuck Poindexter (RU) 4.895 at 121 mph (.396 RT) Foul start
Bobby got lucky on this pass. Chuck fouled the tree and Bobby had problems getting down the race track.
Steve Wiley (W) 4.212 at 173 mph (.494 RT)
Thomas Myers (RU) 4.305 at 172 mph (.440 RT)
A last minute lane change decision bit Thomas in the wallet. He switched to the right lane after seeing Booth having trouble getting down the left lane that had just been cleaned from a big oil down and Steve had no problems getting down it. Thomas was in and out of the throttle and his slight hole shot advantage wasn't enough to hold off the Texas Grim Reaper.
Frankie Taylor (W) 3.963 at 186 mph (.581 RT) **Track Record**
Howard Brown (RU) 4.581 at 158 mph (.945 RT)
Howard, you can't give Frankie the hit and expect to win. Not sure what problems Howard was having but it didn't matter cuz Frankie had the record setting run going on. This is only the 4th run on the brand new Jeffers Race Cars ride and what a sweet ride it is. Congrats guys (& gals)
Doug Riesterer (W) 4.008 at 181 mph (.468 RT)
Gaylen Smith (RU) 4.895 at 107 mph (.460 RT)
Doug had a nice run going and all Gaylen could do was sit back and watch.....for now. I promise we will figure this car and tune-up out and be back in the winners circle but we just have to shake a few gremlins off our back.
Semi Finals:
Doug Riesterer (W) 4.025 at 181 mph (.468 RT)
Steve Wiley (RU) 4.238 at 172 mph (.495 RT)
Nice run by both cars but Doug's in the finals.
Frankie Taylor (W) 4.059 at 180 mph (.571 RT)
Bobby Booth (RU) 4.467 at 150 mph (.518 RT)
Booth nearly kissed the guardrail shortly after take-off and recovered but Frankie was on a nice run and he will face Doug in the finals. Frankie, your making it look easy!
Frankie Taylor (W) 4.637 at 117 mph (.540 RT)
Doug Riesterer (RU) 7.267 at 65 mph (.459 RT)
Both cars having a pedalfest but it is Frankie who comes out on top. My guess is both cars were hopped up and Frankie was able to corral his beast up long enough to take the win. Congratulations on the win and beautiful new hot rod. Congratulations to Doug on your runner-up finish as well.
Thanks to the staff of Red Line Raceway who had a great racing surface and overcame all of the delays.
