North Star Dragway: 8/18/2007 ________________

It was raining all around the DFW area but there was literally a hole in the clouds and you could see nothing but blue skies shining down over North Star Dragway on August 18th as 15 Pro Mod teams rolled into Denton. We had a couple of teams making their 2007 TOPMA debut (Randy Brewer & Jeremy Brown). After two rounds of qualifying, here’s the overdue look at what went down last Saturday.

#1 Bobby Booth with a 4.158 at 175 mph

#3 Steve Wiley with a 4.218 at 173 mph
#4 Thomas Myers with a 4.229 at 174 mph

#6 Randy Brewer with a 4.248 at 176 mph
#7 Ken Thomas with a 4.296 at 166 mph

Round 1:

Steve Wiley (W) 4.234 at 174 mph (.030 RT)
Randy Brewer (RU) 5.370 at 90 mph (.513 RT)

Not sure what happened to Randy but it didn’t matter because the Texas Grim Reaper floated down track to take the win.

Thomas Myers (W) 5.475 at 88 mph (.175 RT)
Clyde Scott (RU) No Time

Clyde threw away what looked to be a nice run but he left before the tree was activated and Thomas shuts it down and coasts into the semi finals.

Ken Thomas (W) 4.114 at 177 mph (.020 RT)
Frankie Taylor (RU) 4.140 at 183 mph (.080 RT)

Ken took off first and never looked back. Frankie was looking at the back end of the “Bad Bird” all the way down the track and just flat ran out of real-estate.

Bobby Booth (W) 4.146 at 177 mph (.090 RT)
Chuck Nuytten (RU) No Time (.074 RT)

Chuck moved first and then…….KABOOM! He backfired the carburetors and Bobby cruised right down the lane taking the win into the semi’s.

Semi-Finals:

Steve Wiley (W) 4.332 at 166 mph (.064 RT)
Ken Thomas (RU) 4.098 at 178 mph (-.025 RT)

I know Ken is kicking himself over the fouled start but hey…..he went another “0”. Great job guys! Steve charges into the final round.

Thomas Myers (W) 4.089 at 177 mph (.097 RT)
Bobby Booth (RU) 8.056 at 55 mph (.058 RT)

Bobby got the hit but he couldn’t bring it home. Thomas had no problems getting down the track and he is meeting the Texas Grim Reaper in the finals.

Final Round:

Thomas Myers (W) 4.105 at 177 mph (.039 RT)
Steve Wiley (RU) 4.201 at 174 mph (.012 RT)

Steve was going for the win but Thomas muscles by and takes his 4th win in a row. Congratulations to Thomas and Rebecca on your win and also to Steve and Maurisa on your runner-up!
